4-20 mA & Dwyer Air Velocity Sensor Installation Guide

Equipment / Materials Needed:
1.   Dwyer Air Velocity Sensor
2.  Duo Meter (complete with power supply)
3.  4-20ma Sensor device (complete with power supply)
4.  4-wire stranded cable
5.  Zip ties.

Suggested tools:
1.  Small flat-blade screwdriver
2.  Wire cutter/strippers
3.  Cordless drill and various drill bits (used for placement of the Velocity sensor into the.
4.  Provisioning program

Install:  Velocity Sensor
1.  Locate area in air duct between the supply plenum and first discharge register.
2.  Mark and drill a 0.750 to 0.938˝ (20 to 24 mm) diameter hole into the duct.
3.  Insert and center the duct mount flange in the previously drilled hole and mark location of the three mounting screw holes.
4.  Remove the mounting flange and drill or punch the mounting holes in the marked locations.
5.  Fasten the flange to the duct using three #8 x 1/2 pan head sheet metal screws. Do not over tighten screws.
6.  Insert the AVUL probe into the ducts mount flange and set the desired insertion depth.
7.  Note the flow direction and unit alignment as shown on sensor tip and product label. Tighten probe retention set screw on the duct mount flange screw to affix the probe in place.

Install:  Duo Meter/4-20ma Sensor
1.  Mount Duo Meter at a desired location. This is usually done with a two-sided tape already affixed to the back of the meter.
2.  Plug micro-USB into charging port at bottom of meter. Plug the other end into a power source.
3.  Plug the 4-20ma Sensor into the communications port on the left-hand side of the meter.
4.  Connect power to the 4-20ma sensor.

Note: Keep in mind there are two power supplies for this application.

Install:  Cabling
1.  Run one 4-conductor stranded cable, (min 18awg) between the 4-20ma sensor and the Velocity sensor.

Good cabling practice.
•  Leave strain relief at both ends of the cable (extra wire at both ends).
•  Do not run cables next to or in parallel to a power conduit. Run perpendicular to any power cable leaving an inch of separation if possible.
•  Do not strap cable to any power conduit.
•  Do not exceed a bend radius of more than 4 times the outer diameter of the cable. (no hard right angle turns).

Connections:  Velocity Sensor
1.  Remove the cover from the top of the Air Velocity Sensor (it will screw off) to expose the Green PCB, Screen, and Blue Wire Connector.

2.   Remove the screen by carefully pulling straight up on the sides of the screen to expose the PCB fully

.
3.  Locate terminal block ports labeled: PWR, GND, and IOUT on the Blue Terminal block on top of the PCB.
4.  Insert the RED wire into the Blue Terminal block port labeled (PWR) and tighten the port screw until the wire is secure.
5.  Insert the BLACK wire into the Blue Terminal block port labeled (GND) and tighten the port screw until the wire is secure.
6.  Insert the BLUE wire into the Blue Terminal block port labeled (IOUT) and tighten the port screw until the wire is secure.

Connections:  4-20mA Sensor
1.  All wiring connections have been pre-wired to the Dwyer Air Velocity Sensor, please continue to wire the sensor into the Sonicu 4-20mA Sensor as shown in the diagram above.
2.  Insert the RED wire into the 4-20mA Sensor port labeled (+) and tighten the port screw until the wire is secure.
3.  Insert the BLACK wire into the 4-20mA Sensor port labeled (GND) and tighten the port screw until the wire is secure.
4.  Insert the BLUE wire into the 4-20mA Sensor port labeled (-) and tighten the port screw until the wire is secure.
5.  Insert the supplied 24v Power Adapter into the 4-20mA Sensor port labeled (PWR)
